GON Gone ... again
I must have some sort of weird relationship with Gathering of Nations now. I have been wanting to go for like five years now and last year I was pretty much all set to go. But then a touring Broadway audition in New York whisked me away on another journey, and I couldn't refuse the opportunity. This year I had my flight and hotel booked months in advance, and was sure that nothing would keep me away. I even started having dreams of all the turquoise jewelry I would acquire whilst in New Mexico ...
And then I signed a contract for an amazing Aboriginal organization that starts the day after GON ended. "No problem" I thought, I will simply re-book my flight to come home a day earlier and I am all set. And that's where the problems began. The flight was going to cost me an additional $600 to rebook for a day earlier, bringing my total cost to almost $1000 USD for a weekend trip. Now that was just too much for me to swallow.
In addition I am also doing school, contract and freelance work this week. Needless to say my plate is full (and not full of cheddar). So the decision has been made. GON has been postponed (again) until next year. My biggest apologies to all the lovelies I was ready to meet IRL and to those who I hadn't seen "in a minute" ...
I will, once again, make the grandest attempts to make GON next year. À bientôt?

IsKwe - I know stoked right? Talking about it for months ... ahhh I do have a great conference coming up and that is going to be awesome. Just too much awesomeness all at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to GON but know lots of people enroute. I keep saying I would love to go, think about it but that's as far as I get though. I haven't given up on it either. Good luck with your conference, and I know eventually you will arrive at GON exactly when needed!
ReplyDeleteMorinfoto - Maybe next year will be our year :).
