Week 4: Workout Rewards II

This rewarding myself for working out is really, ahem, working out. This week I have been feeling like I am not getting the results I want (I am sure those chocolate and steak binges aren't helping me at all). So I increased my cardio to fifteen minutes per workout. Yes I know it's still not a lot, but I hate cardio hardcore so I am forcing myself to do it anyways.

I did the initial consultation at Snap Fitness which was only moderately useful. I did get my BMI which is way, way higher than I want so I really want to start getting serious. The trainer did say my cardio (or lack thereof) was still en pointe because I do supersets for my entire workout and thus keep my heart rate high. Maybe one day soon I will get to start running outside because then I actually enjoy it. Until then this will have to do.

I also consulted with my doctor about my allergies and we are going to go through a blood work allergy test that tests for like 100+ potential food sensitivities. It costs $250 and it takes a week to get results, but I am not scheduled until early March. After I get my results I am going to consult with a nutritionist.

My reward for going to the gym this week was this lovely Manduka Black Mat Pro from Lululemon. They have it for $98, with free shipping in Canada so I was all over it. This mat is supposed to be the best, so I am pretty excited to put it to use. I got my boyfriend and I a 30 day pass at Kula Yoga Studio in Toronto for Valentine's Day so we will start hitting the mats soon. Next weeks reward? Some Lululemon yoga pants of course. Got to have something new to wear to all those sessions!

This mat looks awesome, let me know how you like it. Although I suppose i cover every mat in a yogitoes mat.....but this mat looks cool. Good luck with the allergy testing. Sometimes I think they know what they are doing, but my last test said I was allergic to peanuts and soy and I've eaten edamame and pb and j and never seen this evidence they speak of. Although my test wasn't that expensive, so maybe yours is better. In fact, I know it is.

  2. @Kate - I will try to do a yoga mat review. I amnot an expert by any means but my last yoga mat was too squishy and too pink so I gave it away. My doctor warned me that the test will give me sensitivity to many food items and not to be alarmed by it. It will at least point me closer to what I should stay clear of .... I hope it's helpful. "Yogitoes Mat?"

C'mon, we have to have some commentary on this. It was one of the most breathtakingly awkward things I have ever seen on television:

If doing a cardio routine is difficult for you, try supplementing it with walking. I know your schedule is busy, but by talking the longer walking routes to everything you can add many minutes of cardio to your daily routine. Taking stairs rather than elevators and escalators will help even more.

  5. Darling what a great idea to reward yourself!

I am doing something very similar as I have 7 weeks to get ready for a trip to Mexico. Now you might think a trip is enough of a reward but remember that I can't leave everything to the last minute or I won't see any results! Especially for cardio...I HATE cardio. I love weights, I love yoga...but cardio. Ugh!! :P

How are you finding this system working for you thus far?

  6. Anonymous - sorry I haven't watched either performances (complete lack of time due to schoolwork) so I can't comment. It does look pretty terrible at first glance.

DJ TR-ONE - I actually abhor walking. Always have. I would rather run in the park but that is simply not an option right now. I hear you on those stairs though, I can try that when not wearing heels.

Aleksandra - Getting ready for a trip is the ultimate reward I think but I would probably still need small treats along the way ... The reward system is pushing me to get to the gym at least three times during the week during a time that is retardedly busy so it is great! It also gives me more energy to complete all of my tasks so I am really happy. Try it if you need a little nudging to get yourself going some days :).
