Urban Warrior: Vanessa Wilde

Vanessa Wilde (Navajo Nation) of Denver/Durango, Colorado is an artist and a graphic designer. She tells UNGS the ten things she can't live without.

1.  My Moleskine and pen
Because these are my creative weapons and means of expression.
2. Camera
Whether it be a vintage Pentax or a point & shoot, I love to capture the world around me.
3. My Surly Creamroller
I believe that a world without cars is a possibility and that everyone will ride bikes as their sole means of transportation. It's good for you - plain and simple.

4. CS4
What is a graphic designer without Adobe?
5. Books
I am a well-read individual with a lust for knowledge. 'Pleasures of the Damned' by Charles Bukowski is one of the most recent books I have read. He sure has a way with words, with no regard to sugar-coating or censoring his message. It has inspired my pen as of late when writing for my daily poetry blog.

6. Cocoa Butter
No doubt I need it! It's natural and smells so delicious.
7. Art
My life is intertwined with art that it's essentially what I am and live for.

8. Travel
Being an artist, it is best for my soul to travel; to gain new experience, to broaden my artistry, change my opinion, learn cultures, understand

9. Love
Without it the world would be a tragic place.
10. Music
I listen to a variety of music ranging from indie to dance to underground hip-hop. It's essential because I am a radio producer and a DJ-in-training. I'll have to give it up to my DJ friends to keep me up to date on the latest. ON that note, my long time friend DJ Mykill has been releasing Club Killers, which is an electro club mix, you can download Volume 4 here.

Wow, my comment wasn't posted. I hate when twitter in a different tab affects what I'm doing on other tabs of firefox... lemme try this one more time.

Denver or Durango? There's a large amount of miles and mountains separating the two. I agree with a lot of those items.

Cocoa butter is a need for me, too. For the longest I've always thought I was the only NDN who got ashy.

I'd love to get around on bikes... but I have a mother confined to a wheel-chair and an auntie who has RA that I need an SUV to drive around in. Yeah, they refuse to be stuck at home. Plus, I need my suv or public transportation to get my RBN ass out of Castle Rock, CO from time to time. Thankfully, C Springs runs the FREX from C Springs to Denver all day long, making stops in Castle Rock. Castle Rock has no record shops... they're all in Denver and C Springs.

I don't have a moleskin, but I gotta classic NYC Graf Writer's piecebook!

I'd love to hear about Premiere CS4. So far, that's what I'm looking at for my video editor. I'm inching along towards my webite/mixshow up and running.

Thank you, Ms. Chah-leh for rockin an RNB Warrior from the region I'm stuck in. Let her talk ya into hitting up Denver March and maybe we can all meet up there. Apegesh Ki'je Manitou jawenimig.

  2. Yes... there are a lot of miles between Denver and Durango for sure. Ore' those mountains and the journey is quite awhile. Maybe Vanessa's heart is in both places!?

    I love books too!

    Art is good & important!

Cool... I love these Urban Warrior posts! :)

LOL!!! I better introduce you to the "Pause Game". An old game originating out of Brooklyn, NY circa early to mid 90's. Anytime you state something that could be construed as sexual innuendo, you say "pause"... or expect someone else to pause you. LOL! Yes, "I will do Denver" is a pause. Traditionally, it was meant for anything that could be construed as homosexual innuendo, but myself and other friends thought it's more fun to open up beyond that original parameter. Corny offshoots like "no homo" and "no Karamo" have sprang up... but "pause" and "aye yo..oh aye..." are the original.

I shall follow fair young lady, and ask! She gets around...pause... if she does live between the two. Especially, since her radio show's out of Gallup, NM. I miss going to Earl's Restaurant, in Gallup, for dinner on Saturday nights after all day shopping trips from Chinle, AZ... the only restaurant/Native arts-n-crafts bazarre in America. Miss those NDN Tacos and green enchiladas with sopapillas!
