Roundup 02.26

So this week was a total insane write off bit of a gong show. I have five, yes five, weeks left of school and the pressure is on. Not one to do a half-arse job on anything I have been working myself ragged trying to do well both in school and in my freelance writing world. I even had to cancel not one but two fabulous dinner reservations out with my girlfriends (one was even a birthday celebration). I passed out on the couch almost every night when I couldn't work anymore and usually after reading philosophy. So let's just say this was not my finest of weeks.

I did, however, get to to a Cover FX Beauty blogging event which was pretty informative and fun. Deets to come on that front. Let's just hope next week is much more sanely productive. I may have to actually hibernate until those five weeks are up and all my school work is done.

NOTEWORTHY

-IMDb app for your iPhone is now in Canada. This excites me so because now I can really bug anyone I am watching films with by noting interesting facts about every actor that appears on the screen. Awesome indulgence for the research nerd in me.
-I found this article in Chatelaine by Katrina Onstad where she discussed the conundrum of whether or not to marry your partner. Great debate and although the piece is almost three years old is still seems entirely relevant. She is a brilliant writer and so funny to read.
-Speaking of brilliant writers, I finally read 'Dress your Family in Corduroy and Denim' by David Sedaris. His collection of essays kept me laughing through the entire book.

NATIVE

Joey Stylez in the Vancouver Sun
-Last Friday night I finally go to see Reel Injun in Toronto and got the chance to hang out with the Director Neil Diamond and one of the Producers Ernest Webber after (as well as many other fun Native peeps). Here is my post about the doc before I saw it. I hope to do a full review once I receive a screener copy of the movie. It's still playing in Toronto so go check it before it leaves theaters.
-Taika Waitit's Boy won a big award at the Berlinale Film Festival. He rocks.
-Gyasi Ross' Politics of Hair post stirred up the pot a little bit. I look forward to exploring this topic more.
-Native Rapper Joey Stylez made the Vancouver Sun. I am digging his song 'Sugar Cane.'
-Native Artist Alano Edzerza makes the Vancouver Sun, Globe & Mail, and Fast Company for his designs featured on the Netherlands team at the Olympics. Go Alano! UNGS is a big fan of his work.

FASHION
-Denim is big, no huge for spring/summer fashions this year. I wrote a trend piece on it for MSN.ca that you can check out here. I am looking forward to destroyed denim skinny jeans, and some new basic bootcut jeans to wear with my kicks.

BEAUTY
-I wrote a piece on cosmetic cult cosmetics for MSN.ca. Sometimes when you are shopping for a new mascara, moisturizer, lip gloss, concealer or powder it can be totally confusing because there are just so many products. This list breaks it down to the clear winners in each category that have been proven awesome again and again.

FOOD

Photo from Elana's Pantry
-And for my Elana's Pantry gluten-free baking of the week, I attempted Chocolate Chip Cookies made with almond flour (which might have made been by request from my boyfriend). They were super yummy although they were tricky to get just right. Will attempt again and again I am sure.
-I bought pizza crust from Organic Oven and it was delicious. I loved being able to make random pizzas at home and not have to order a $40 pizza from Magic Oven or eat a frozen Amy's cardboard.
