Les Coquettes 'Love Story'

Well I thought I had seen it all. I have been to three whole burlesque shows you know. I thought I was fairly "seasoned." But no, my expectations were exceeded last Saturday at the Les Coquettes 'A Love Story' show for Valentine's Day.

While I have met, and seen a few of the troupe members perform before. Nothing had prepared me and the six other people I came with for a show of this caliber right in our Ossington backyard. We caught the first of two shows at The LOT,  a venue that allowed all guests to get a great glimpse of all the garters and gams our eyes could take.
This dynamic duo was a crowd favorite

Mina LeFleur glam.
This is why you spring for the good seats.

Guest diva of the night was the Mina LeFleur, who sat in the audience wearing that white fur stole all night. Love the old school glamour that this girl oozes out of her. She has a supreme Jessica Rabbit vibe, and works her voluptuous frame so you can't help but be enchanted.

This was only one of two sold out performances.
Charlotte does silks.

With eight action-packed numbers in the first act, the crowd was ready for the intermission. I met a very pregnant lady in the washroom (yeah that's how I roll) who surprised her husband with the show tonight. She looked to be a future soccer mom that probably came from Burlington for the event. He was like "Honey, how did you find out about this event?" She says "From my friends at my pole dancing class." That really summed up the crowd there. It was young, old and people from all different demographics. It shows how burlesque has really come to the forefront and no one is left out from enjoying it anymore.

Then they pulled out the big guns. Charlotte Webber came out and did a silks routine. That girl is flexible, talented, and amazing. I felt like I was at a Vegas-calibre performance all of a sudden. Right here in Toronto. Yes it is that good. The Rummoli Brothers put on a small comedy skit and their jokes were relevant, timely, and local. "I don't know if you recognize my accent, I am from the King & Bathurst area." Adam Giambroni was running an "election to erection campaign" and might have been "stuffing the ballots." It had my boyfriend and I in stitches.

One more thing ladies, when you are attending a burlesque show, feel free to dress up. Seriously, I broke out my chinchilla vest, with a black dress and polka dot stockings. When in Rome. Put on your sluttiest stilettos, bust out in a bustier, or rock out some rabbit fur. No one will mind, in fact they will appreciate, and it will add to the enjoyment of the evening. Added bonus: You will look killer sexy when you go out for swanky cocktails after.

This troupe is high on my radar, and their next show is scheduled for April 18th at Revival. I already have an invite list longer than my Xmas Wish List (and that was long) so join their group page to get in the loop. They also have a Burlesque Academy starting on February 23rd, which is a 6 week course ending in your very own performance. You know I want to be all over it but at $350 for the lessons, this little kitten will have to remain a house cat.

  3. A burlesque academy - how awesome! But $350 is a bit pricey! Toronto seems like such a great place to live! Every time I visited I always had a blast. Its been about 6 years since my last visit. Would like to visit soon!

  4. Anishinaabekwe - Yes I will have to wait on those burlesque lessons it seems. Toronto is a great city to live in. Always so much to do, so much fun to be had (sometimes too much). Would love to hang if you make it up here :).

  5. Lisa - Yes, I would love to hang out as well. In fact, since I have been living in the North I miss Detroit and may return there. The North country has its pros and cons. I have a really strong community in Detroit - as much as I think that I didn't when I left in November. So, I may be closer to Toronto sooner than later. :)
