My Twitterversary

Photo from ProBlogger

Today marks the one year anniversary of my being on Twitter. It's a proud moment in history. I wish I could remember my first tweet though ... It was probably something like "It's my first tweet" or "Just checking out this Twitter thing" or something equally as amateur.

Not that I am a super savvy social media sweetheart or anything just yet (unlike miss @CarolZara and @casiestewart who are total Tweethearts) but I totally remember those awkward, clueless beginning moments. Who knew I would become completely and utterly addicted and be annoying all my RL (real life) friends with constant chatter about Twitter.

Actually I started to give that up as of late. I get annoyed when I am a party and someone is like *gum snap* "Well, like, I just don't get it ... like what is so great about Twitter?" Yawn, I actually don't care to explain it to them. It's probably better if they are not on Twitter and clogging up my Twitterverse. Okay now I am sounding like a Twitter snob. Maybe I am.

A few weekends ago I went to my first Tweet and Greet called #ReGiftTo which proved to be an awesome time where I met some Toronto Tweeps IRL (in real life). It really proved to me (again) what a great tool Twitter is for fun, friends, and folly.

For my Online Cultures Anthropology class I have even chosen to do my final assignment on Twitter as an ethnographic study. Maybe then I will have a better answer for when someone asks me "What's this Twitter thing all about?"

Ha! I feel the same. I don't bother explaining anymore. If they don't understand, it's there lost. It's proven to be to valuable of a tool.
I' ve met so many great people including yourself. Great post!

Twitter's been a treasure of sorts, for reasons unrelated as to why I got an account to begin with. I was told to sign-up and help promote this Hip Hop radio show, based out of Long Island, NY I do volunteer work for, as well as network with other Hip Hop artists and get my production career going... I do promote the show (Off the Top Radio). I've found Hip Hop artists to be as arrogant, egotistic, and just plain unpleasant on Twitter. For them Twitter is a tool to have their precious egos stroked by their fans... nothing else!

What I've quite pleasantly found Twitter be is a connection to NDN Country I have lost, since moving off the rez and back into Western Society. I'm not sure I'd trade that digital connection for much else. Especially, since the Native community in the Denver, CO area isn't well formed. Between 3000 and 10,000 NDNs and you'd think we'd be a more cohesive community to Denver, CO. Still, I have Twitter to make up for the lack of community amongst Natives in my area.

Happy Twittiversary!
