Urban Warrior: Kitsuneh Star Moon

Photo by Chloe Whitehorn. See more photos in this series here.

Kitsuneh Star Moon (Cree from Mistawasis in Sasketchewan) of Niagara Falls, Ontario is a film student at Niagara College and aspiring model/actress. She tells UNGS the top ten things she can’t live without.

1. Boy's Sweaters
There's something so comfy and comforting about stealing my boyfriend's sweater, plus I'm so tall and lean that girl sweaters never fit me properly!

2. Indie Flicks
I like independent films. I'm getting in to movie making, so I like the weird original ideas like Tideland by Terry Gilliam and anything by Tim Burton.

3. The Gorge
There's nothing more relaxing than this beautiful trail in the falls that takes you down to the Niagara River, it's so breathtaking and warms my soul.

 Andrew Bird
4. Indie Tunes
I heart indie music and I'm so proud of Canadian musicians. Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, Joel Plaskett.

5. True Blood & Next Top Model
I don't watch TV too much, but two shows I never miss are True Blood and Next Top Model. I can't help it they're so addictive!

6. Lovage
My dog that just died this summer. I know its something that we "can't live without" but the memory of him each day brings asmile to my face and you'd be surprised with what you could learn from an animal companion.

7. Fennec Fox
I'm saving for a Fennec Fox. Foxes are one of my favourite animals and I learned that we could own this type of fox so I'm saving up.

8. Nature
I feel so alive when I can breathe fresh air and be graced by the beauty this world has to offer.

9. Editing Software
Whether it be photo or video editing software, I love to enhance things to their fullest potential.

10. Creativity
And finally, I couldn't live without being creative; I love to paint, sing, dance, learn new artsy things. I'm currently working on a couple Burlesque Performances with Circus Entertainment (Facebook group add them...NOW) in Toronto.

Inspired by Toronto Life's 'City Survivor' pages, UNGS is selecting Indigenous individuals from all over who represent what it is to be a Native person living in today's modern world and how we decide to navigate it.

  4. abduk- awesome, it's totally not me but I found it through Chloe Whitehorn's Twitter. I love finding new Indigenous talent out there and showcasing their awesomeness!

Oh and as for Top Model, I don't even have cable right now so I am not watching. It's all good though, it enables me to get loads of more work done :).

  5. RIP puppy... and those foxes are GORGEOUS! You're so cool... I wish I had a best friend like you! :) Hey - when you were younger, were you as 'in touch' with your heritage? Or is it something recent you've learned to love?

P.S. I've namedropped my blog enough, now. It was getting a little cheeky... :P

  7. Novalinhe- Oh this is my Urban Warrior series which features other Native men/women who are pretty fly in North America. This post is all about Kitsuneh. I love that she might get foxes, it is so awesome!

As for growing up, I left my reserve when I was 4 and grew up in the Vancouver burbs away from my Indigenous family so I have reconnected with my culture in the last 5 years now :).

  9. Awesome warrior profile!

Would you ever be interested in featuring urban warriors from Detroit? You could do a nice little write up of what you are looking for and I could spread the word. Even though I am rural/small town {currently} Native gal I am still connected to the Detroit Native community. Let me know what you think Lisa! Cheers!
