Gift Guide for Her

Here is a list of ten gift ideas that are UNGS approved for some glorious gift-giving this holiday season. Enjoy!

1. Ladies Canvas Deer Tote by Anya Hindmarch. $175 USD.

This hot canvas bag is great for a girl-on-the-go who is witty, cheeky and likes to have fun. It is large enough to hold a netbook or perfect for the weekend shopping to the local market.

2. Orange Cremesicle Lip Gloss by Sequioa Soaps*. $12 CAD.
*NATIVE Business

This lip gloss is yummy, I have tried a few of the Sequoia line, but this one has a delicious favour and a natural colour that is perfect all year round. Great for an adolescent girl and for a woman who loves to keep her lips luscious.

3. Red Clover Travel Candle by Sequoia Soaps*. $12 CAD.
*NATIVE Business

Got a lady on your list who is always on the fly? This travel candle is a small enough size for her to tuck into her carry-on so that she can pamper herself in her hotel room. I love this soy/beeswax candle (with a cotton core wick) because sometimes hotel rooms can be cold and sterile, a candle with a familiar delicious smell makes me feel warm and cozy right away.

4. Nappa Mukluk by Manitobah Mukluk*. $330 CAD (Aprrox.)
*NATIVE Business

Now I don't know one Native girl that doesn't want a pair of mukluks (or two or three). This design features a Nappa leather that is water resistant and can be worn even when the ground is a little wet and not be worried about salt stains. Fleece Sheepskin shearling lined and rubber soled they are great for a day when the snow just starts to fall. US sales here.

5. Cape Town Bohemian Necklace by Lia Sophia. $523 CAD.
*NATIVE Representative- order here.

This necklace is decadent, gorgeous, timeless and elegant. it has a distinct Aztec vibe that is divine. I fell in love with this while working on set at LUSH Magazine and immediately lusted after it. It is a great piece for the woman who attends a lot of functions, cocktail parties, and events so she can display this showstopper over and over again.

6. "How I Learned to Run" by Kinnie Starr* [Parlance Media, Inc.]. $20 CAD.
*NATIVE Author

Kinnie Starr is one of my all time favorite musicians. Her words are lyrical, and this here is a collection of her poems. Now that is inspiring, especially for an adolescent or young woman wanting to explore her Native roots.

7. Navajo Water Blanket by Pendleton Woolen Mills. $275 USD
*NATIVE(ish)- Portion of proceeds goes to American Indian College Fund.

This is a beautiful addition to any household, especially one's cottage or that has a rustic vibe. Great for a mother, aunt or grandmother. She will treasure and love this blanket.

8. Slate Grey Hot Water Bottle Cover by Smitten Kitten. $48 CAD.

How cute is this? Great for the person who loves to be cozy at home and likes to have everything looking keen. Makes a unique hostess gift.

 9.  Little Birch Jewelry Stand by Urban Outfitters. $28 CAD.

Who doesn't need this tree to hang their necklaces and cuffs on? Nature inspired and in a matte finish that will look right at home on their dresser. Suited well for teenage girls, and women in their 20s.

10. Zuni Native American Turquoise & Sterling Silver Earrings by Turquoise Village*. $255 USD.
*NATIVE made.

And I saved the best for last. Now I know there is not one Native woman out there who wouldn't want these earrings. Even if they are only saved for a special occasion once a year, they will be brought out and enjoyed. Stunning work, gorgeous details, and still a modern feel to these stunning earrings.

Also wanted to point out that there are gift ideas for the e-philanthropist at heart as well! UNICEF Canada has Gifts that Give Back available.

Lots of environmental, social and ethical friendly products, including some stuff for your fashion fans.

Those are great gift options for those who want to do dual duty with their holiday dollars. Thanks Kavi!

I don't know one Native girl that doesn't want a pair of mukluks either especially now that Manitobah Mukluks offers supple Italian Nappa Leather outer, with Vibram TC1 soles, and sheepskin shearling lining, comfortable to wear all year long! We will be at Capezio - Yorkdale Mall Location, Saturday, November 21st 12:30-4 p.m. with Aboriginal Recording Star and Aboriginal Voices Radio show Host, "Plex!"

This blog is a really good idea. I feel a little out of place posting here as I'm not a native, but this is a really lovely blog. Wish I could be a part of it!
