GON Grand entry.

I have been dreaming about going to the Gathering of Nations (GON) for over four years now. My friend Jennifer Menominee was the first person who planted the seed back in the day. She traveled down to cover events for SPIRIT Magazine in 2006 and told me all about how amazing it was, and I have been intent on going ever since.
GON is a huge pow wow that happens in April every year in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Native people come from all across Turtle Island (aka North America) to be there and dance, watch, perform, hang, and see and be seen. This is the ultimate Indian gathering of the year. Just about every Native person you could ever talk to on Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace will be there as well as some amazing dancers and great performers as well.
So last year I was pretty much set to go but had a last minute audition in New York and my plan was thwarted (not that I am complaining about the audition, that was amazing). Anyhow, I have been just dying to go and next year is THE YEAR I am going to make it. I want to not only check out the pow wow, but also see the evening events, shop the local markets, and cover it all for the blog. GON from Urban Native Girl's perspective coming to you April 2010.
Maybe. Well as some of you readers might now, I am a full-time student enrolled at York University in Professional Writing and about to finish, yes in April 2010. So my funds will limited, my excitement will be high, and my ambition to make this a reality is relentless.
So all of that just to say that the little button over to the right that says 'Donate,' which is a Pay Pal button where you can contribute to my GON 2010 fund if you feel so inclined. I want to make this trip a reality so that I can travel, meet Native people and artists to commemorate my graduation from school and my desire to immerse myself more in Native events happening all across Turtle Island once
