Fringe was not foreign at Jeremy Laing's Fall/Winter 2009 collection. How fitting for him to put it on Canadian Native model Tara Gill (who is part Mohawk). I fell in love with the fringed top that is on her, it is such a showstopper. I also think that the fringed dress on the bottom right was a unique nod and would work well with a pair of vintage cowboy boots.

Canadian Jeremy Laing was trained at Ryerson University and then went on an exchange to the University of London (Designers take note: London is also where Canadian design star Erdem Moralioglu went after training at Ryerson). He then got an apprenticeship with Alexander McQueen, the original bad boy of fashion. When he returned to Toronto he gained his own bad boy status for eschewing the Toronto Fashion Week and setting his sights on New York and gaining International exposure there.

His collection can be found at Holt Renfrew in Canada, as Barbara Atkin, VP of Fashion Direction, scooped it up after seeing it in spring 2006 when it was shown in a Knoll furniture shop in Manhattan. While Jeremy Laing is on the rise to becoming an international commodity how wonderful for him to pay a small homage to his Canadian roots.
