Fashion soldiers

Like whoa, check out the feathers on this little number for the cover of The Room Issue 10. It reminded me a lot of a dog soldier.

I knew this guy ... hmm let's call him F ... who was a traditional pow wow dancer and he wanted to don a new headdress in the fashion of a dog soldier (pictured below). So he went to the local craft shop and bought a million black coque feathers and made it. The end result reminded me of a mix between this fashion cover and the pow wow dancer's headdress (far below).

I do find it interesting how in fashion there are many feather inspired headdresses and headbands that are inspired by old Native traditional regalia, and some as elusive as the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers who were a military society that was borne out of the early 19th century American colonization expansion into Cheyenne territory in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. Now maybe that's why that model looks so fierce on the cover of The Room . . .
