Photo by JJones Photography. Erika Archer (Meherrin Nation of North Carolina) of Fort Washington, Maryland is currently pursuing her dream career in the entertainment industry (singing, dancing, acting, and modeling) and tells UNGS the ten things she can't live without.
1. Dancing
I love hip hop, contemporary, powwow, modern, and well I love it all …
2. My iPhone 3G
2. My iPhone 3G
My favorite applications are for Facebook and MySpace.
3. My Macbook
I have a Macbook and I love iMovie and my webcam on it because they help me stay in contact with all of my long distance friends that I don’t get to see too much.
I love the ones with mirrors, and wampum jewelry.
Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, cookies and cream ice cream and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are my favorite snacks.
6. CHI straightening/flat iron
It is my favorite because I naturally have extremely curly hair and it helps to straighten, de-frizz and make my hair shiny.
His albums are a must have for me because I grew up on his music. I was not allowed to listen to the radio as a child and Michael was the only mainstream music allowed in the house, I grew up loving him and he has been my inspiration for my dancing, singing, and even cultural studies in terms of my interest in different cultures.
8. Fry bread
8. Fry bread
It is a must have because it taste sooo good and you can make it into a dinner, a snack or possibly even breakfast or desert depending on how you eat it and what you put on it.
The powwow trail is something that means a lot to me, because I live in an urban area where there is an extremely small Native population, and the powwow trail allows for me to see friends, and be around other Native people.
10. Cosmopolitan MagazineIt's my favorite magazine because I love all of the advice, tips, and information in provides - it's also just a really fun read.

Inspired by Toronto Life's 'City Survivor' pages, UNGS is selecting Indigenous individuals from all over who represent what it is to be a Native person living in today's modern world and how we decide to navigate it.

Nice! Fort Washington is like RIGHT there - like 15 min. from where I be right now (Alexandria, VA). Indian Country is wickedly small!!

Beautiful Pow Wow pictures! So colorful...
Could you explain the meaning of pow-wow to a French woman? ;-) I kind of know what it is yet I could use some background and explanations.
