Tribalism is hot, have you heard? So is the pan-American, bohemian, "Native" inspired garb and gear. Tokion, a New York based art/fashion/film/music magazine has a very hot and hip cover. Right on trend. It's got that mash up of both tribal and Native elements (West Coast design tatoo). And look at the cover of Drome Magazine - a quarterly Italian art magazine. Both so hip it hurts

I've seen them do this in past issues
ReplyDeleteThe Tokion cover is pretty hot. I'll take that kind of mash-up any day. But the Drome cover is just idiotic.
ReplyDeletedont forget orientalism!
ReplyDeleteThosh - good eye, you are always on the magazine crawl.
ReplyDeleteI think the Tokion is interesting but they are definitely leaning toward pointless exotification, or perhaps, even orientalism ... (thx Joel).
The Drome cover is part of an artist's larger collection of works, but I couldn't afford the $25 price tag just to scope it out.
I saw one of my favorite actors (AB boy Taylor Kitsch) in a headdress for a fashion photoshoot recently. I think I literally made this face --> :\
ReplyDeleteI guess that is what Parisian would call "bohémien chic" :-)
