Shaking it up

Just in time for Aboriginal Day in Canada I got my new vintage salt and pepper shakers. Whoo hoo they are soo adorable and I got them for like $35 including tax from carmenandginger on Etsy. It was my first purchase on this online shop and I think it could quite possibly become my new favorite way to purchase all things Native and vintage and kitsch.

I got this pair of salt and pepper shakers from the Red Indian Art Deco store that recently closed on Queen Street. I bought them for a painting class I was taking at York University in my first year to do a still life study. I ended up painting a paper clip cat instead but they were the start to my new collection of salt and pepper shakers.

If you want to find some other cool stuff on Etsy go here and select vintage from the drop down menu and then type in 'Native' or 'Native American' and just see the cute stuff that comes up. I saw this above collection of vintage cake toppers, which are actually quite hideous and of course stereotypical and not representing properly BUT just imagine making a cake for your friend and putting these on top ... hilarious!

  2. Sage - that is cool. I could spend thousands of dollars on Etsy and then have to get storage to house all my cool new toys, but I hold back. Maybe one new toy a month?
