I thought it was about Valley girls

Well I grew up somewhat of a valley girl .... no not the California version, rather the Vancouver version. What version is that? Well the Fraser Valley Abbotsford version of course!

So when my fellow Fraser Valley girl, Nancy (by way of Chilliwack), loaned me Valley of the Dolls I thought it was about a bunch of Valley girls who loaded up on a bunch of pills in effort to fit into 50s Hollywood. Much to my pleasant surprise it was much more vain than that.

The 1966 novel, Valley of the Dolls, follows the life of:

Anne: the beautiful pedigreed blonde who escapes a dull Northwestern town to the big city where she can bag millionaires like Wynona steals handbags
Neely: the vagabond who gets a break, but never gets a grip. She is out of control worse than Brit Brit.
Jennifer: the blonde actress cum soft porn star cum actress who was always looking for love (mostly in the wrong places)

The novel by Jacqueline Susann was the first of it's kind back in the day and sold over 30 million copies. It was made into a movie in 1967 which I am dying to get my hands on, but I am way too cheap to pay over $40 for the DVD.

This is a super girly book that is perfect for the beach, the park, or the cottage whilst sipping sticky sweet bubbly drinks and working on the perfect bronzed bod.
