The Cardinal Rule
I finished my final paper deadlines just in time on Friday to head over to the late show Mothers and Daughters playing at the Royal Cinema. The Indie Canadian flick featured both Tantoo Cardinal and Tinsel Korey so despite the bad reviews I just had to check it out.
Korey is the Aborginal actress who beat me (and about ten thousand others) out and landed the role as Emily in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. So of course I wanted to see her on the big screen and figure out how I can brush up on my acting chops so I can land a big role like that too.
First scene I saw was with Tantoo Cardinal and her son, Clifford. I was totally stoked because I just did a short film called Go. Get. Dad, directed by Adam Garnet Jones where he and I co-star. So I am watching Clifford on the big screen and kinda freaking out because I will be sharing a big screen with him soon.
Back to the movie, it was an awesome flick that both me and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed. The drama weaves the tale of three seperate relationships of mothers and daughters (or a facsimilie as with Tantoo and Tinsel) in a documentary style format that reminded me of a more fun version of Rachel Getting Married.
It is playing at The Royal now so be sure to check it out and support some Indigenous actors on the big screen.

Looks good! I'll try anything that's similar to Rachel Gettign Married, that film was stellar. Right now, I'm wishing I lived in Toronto so I could go see Tantoo and Korey on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteLisa! I was in Adam Garnet Jones' short A Small Thing http://www.girlboyproductions.com/trailer.html love him so much. smallest world, hey?
ReplyDeleteKaren - yeah it was really great to see them together, they were great :). You will get to see Tinsel soon though on the big screen!!!
ReplyDeleteMeredith- that is funny! wow I saw that short last year when I was working at imagineNATIVE Film Festival "Best Short Drama." Yeah, it is such a small world ...
I will try to see it in Ottawa. I'm dying for more indies movies!
ReplyDeleteZhu ~ Nice! I hope you have it there ... I agree on indie movies, I get so bored of the same Hollywood stuff over and over. Indies are refreshing when well done.
ReplyDeleteI am a old BD school mate of Tantoo's Does anyone know a address for her or tell her to E mail Me.
