Samantha Crain's sophomore release Songs in the Night is available today. It is a folk country Okie sound. This Choctaw Oklahoma Native is only twenty-two and her and her band The Midnight Shivers have gotten a lot of attention. Rolling Stone says "Crain’s melancholy alto—delicate and tender at times, but always strong enough to deliver her words with conviction—is reason enough to become a dedicated fan."
And a dedicated fan I am. I got my copy via iTunes earlier this afternoon so I could spend my afternoon writing while listening to her. My favorite pics are 'Rising Sun' and 'Get the Fever Out' both of which can be sampled on Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers My Space page.
Also on their page you can check their tour dates; currently they are touring all over the U.S. until the end of September. When I met her in Brooklyn, NY just a month ago she told me they would be touring Europe and then coming to Canada soon thereafter. Their performance that night was amazing and was reviewed here. I was not expecting to see them perform live and was ecstatic when they closed the Native American Film + Video festival and I had the opportunity to also meet her and buy her debut album The Confiscation. So now I will depart and listen to her songs into the night.
