John Eagle (Glen Gould), Justin Tommy (Wesley French), Stacy Peltier (Jenny Pudavick)on Cashing In set
The series is a half-hour dramedy about a First Nations community in Southern Manitoba that revolves around it's casino. Wesley French comes to town from Toronto as the hot young city slicker with a big bannock on his shoulder. Glen Gould plays the lovable local horseman who has the community's interest at heart.
So far this show has delivered solid scriptwriting and great dashes of humour. Aboriginal peoples are shown in a modern context, as exemplified by the elder Mrs. Muskrat who listens to her MP3 player s as she sits by the fire. Writers Trevor Cameron, Adam Garnet Jones, Keith Lawrence, Elizabeth Denny, and Mike Gosselin all graduated from the National Screen Institute Storytellers program, where the show was developed in a joint program with APTN.
So I invite you to check it out. This episode features cameo appearance by Cree songstress Chantal Kreviazuk. With great cinematography, a good script, and interesting characters I am stocking up on popcorn and am working my plan to tune in for the first season.
