Canada goose

Yesterday was not a big day, it was mostly filled with coffee, writing and a lot of time in front of the computer. I finally begged off my piece while I was having 'writer's block' and decided to face the winter cold and head off for a walk to Roncesvalles.

While zipping up my fugly winter boots, the zipper broke. I was secretly happy because I hate my winter boots (despite the four years I have held on to them). Although I was met with the dilemna of having to take my walk braving the icy sidewalks in either my 5" high-heeled rubber sole platform leather boots or my New Balance trainers. My sneaks won the war.

So I piled on my Talula Babuton black parka (which I also secretly hate and only bought because well Canada is freaking cold in the winter) and made the way. Whilst on my walk listening to some Cat Power and smiling in the sun I was experiencing winter wear envy. A case that I didn't think that I would encounter especially given that last year I made a point not to purchase any more winter gear (gloves, scarves, hats, winter jackets, snow boots, etc.) since I was going to gain some sense and head south in the winter. Like a Canada Goose I would migrate south to the United States (hopefully Los Angeles, Miami, or even Phoenix).

But the Canada Goose jacket I saw in Elle Canada last month has really caught my eye. It looks ridiculously warm and after a quick perusal on their website I found one trimmed with white Arctic fox fur (I know, I know but I am Native Indian after all). A down filled pillow of heaven on a cold day I would say. It is however a 3/4 length jacket which can get annoying at times. So maybe for those warmer days I could pull out my Moncler Billings jacket, which is a litte piece of heaven. These coats are super light weight, and warm. They also have that glossy nylon fabric which I am currently obsessing over.

My other obsession now is Sorel boots. Yes it is hard to imagine that this day has come. But these days I see a pair of Sorel Caribou Reserve boots and all I can think is how cute they are and how toasty and warm my feet would be in them. And honestly unless you are shopping in Yorkville, who really cares how fashionable your feet are when you are trudging out to grab some vino and movies?

Well that is what my winter has come down to . . . trying to keep warm while doing not much more than stepping outside briefly to stock up on my winter essentials: vino, movies, food, popcorn, and magazines. It's kind of like hibernation, which is precisely why I will try to forgo these purchases this year so my luggage will be light when I head off like a Canada Goose for warmer pastures next winter season.
